Who's radio st. paula?

radio st. paula, that are at the moment about 20 women, the group is open. We are broadcasting ca 12 hours the week as part of the FSK (Freies Sender Kombinat). If you also want to go on the air, you can join us. Not all our programs are in German and you are welcome to broadcast in your native language. Just drop by at our plenum, every last Tuesday at 8.00 pm.

radio st. paula was founded in 1991 as one of two projects following Radio St. Pauli. Since then radio st. paula has produced more than 600 hours of programs. We've looked for--and found--women and lesbians in the fields of politics, society, resistance, culture, media, sports and music. We've investigated, explored, criticized and interviewed them. Many women have asked questions, taken the microphones themselves, presented their projects or simply made their voices heard... Listeners became broadcasters.

radio st. paula is one of the founding members of the FSK. The FSK (Freies Sender Kombinat) was founded in Hamburg as a parent organization for several local radio projects. January 1, 1998, the FSK got finally its own frequency on 93.0 fm (except on Sundays). FSK is a free, noncommercial radio, i.e., it is neither state-owned nor private/commercial. FSK is funded by listener's subscriptions, so you won't find any commercial advertising in FSK's programs!

Still FSK is a private radio in the sense that private volunteers--that could be also you--and not companies have joined together to produce an independent radio program. But FSK is also public, because community volunteers are organizing both broadcasting and administration, and others can join our project.

FSK is associated nationally and internationally with other free community radio projects. It's a member of the Bundesverband Freier Radios and the AMARC (Association Mondiale des Radiodiffuseurs Communautaires).
