NYC Social Forum workshop

Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2003

Hello Hubbist@s,

I'm writing in to encourage "contamination"-minded folks to attend the NYC Social Forum workshop that I'll be presenting during the wsf. The NYC Social Forum is the most developed of the U.S.A. based social forums and is being organized from the grassroots with a focus on direct democracy. A video (in english) will be shown covering some of its history and most recent manifestations. This presentation could also be a space for discussions around developing directly democratic and grassroots social forums.

in solidarity,
R.J.

Another City Is Possible: The New York City Social Forum

The New York City Social Forum is following in the footsteps of social forums that have taken place in Spain, Mexico, Italy, South Africa, and Brazil, which brought together tens of thousands of people who developed coalitions and networks and shared new ideas to combat the problems faced by the people of the world.

The New York City Social Forum is a process of building genuine democracy at the local level, while engaging in global debates and strategizing to overcome international issues.

We will present a talk on the process of building a social forum in New York City (NYC), discuss our successes and the challenges we have faced.

We will also give a reportback on the recent mini-forum we have organized and talk about what the next steps are for the social forum movement in NYC as well as in the United States.

We will present a video documenting our experiences and sharing what it is like to build a forum here in NYC.
