The Leman Lake consists in a kind of banana, approx. 75 km long.

It is surrounded by Switzerland to the North and by France to the South.


 
 
 

The main costal towns are (by order of importance) :

- Geneva at the west end of the lake:
   - 40 km from Evian on a normal road
   - 300'000 inhabitants
   - The only international airport of the area
   - Numbrous luxurious hotels
   - Many squats and an important "alternative" scene

- Lausanne, facing Evian on the swiss coast of the lake :
   - 14 km from Evian by boat, 110 km by road
   - 150'000 inhabitants
   - Some hotels that will be used by the delegations
   - 1 youth hostel called "Jeun' Hotel"

- Thonon :
   - 15 km west of Evian
   - The biggest town of the french coast
   - 80'000 inhabitants
   - Campsite

- Vevey :
   - 20 km east of Lausanne
   - 20'000 inhabitants
   - Home town of Nestlé

- Evian :
   - Despite its international fame it's more a big village than a town.
   - 7'000 inhabitants
   - Enough hotels to host the hard core of the summit
