After a tour in the U.S. (New York and Boston) and Canada, denouncing the acute situation of human rights in our country and the paramilitary onslaught against Colombian trade unionists, paramilitaries have again attempted to assassinate Brother Ramirez. While he was travelling in his vehicle in Bogota city, accompanied by two guards, two paramilitaries maneuvered their motorcycle to position themselves on the side of the car in which Ramirez was sitting, but thanks to his quick reaction in pointing out what was happening the driver managed to lose the assassins.
We demand that the National Authorities establish security measures to protect the life of our Brother and not permit his name to be entered as yet another casualty in the long list of assassinated trade unionists. In its15 years of existence, CUT has had more than 3800 Brothers and Sisters assassinated with 100% of impunity.
