Termin-Kalender geht wieder

02.03.2002, 18:19, protest.net

Des längerern lief der protest.net Terminkalender sehr instabil und es war nicht möglich, Termine zu posten. Jetzt geht er wieder.

Erklärung von protest.net:

Hi. You've probably noticed things have been a little bit unstable with Protest.net lately. Sorry we haven't taken the time to stop and say something about it earlier. Things are definitely looking better, but will continue to be rocky for a little while longer. (e.g. the syndicated sites are still broken, as is signing up for new calendars)

This hasn't been entirely a bad thing. Protest.net started over 4 years ago, as one of the early experiments in open publishing. We wanted to provide a service for the growing number of activists who were moving their struggles online, and to let those people who were isolated physically, know they weren't alone. 4 years, tens of thousands of events, and 2 Webby nominations later, we never quite lived up to our original vision.

Partially we got distracted. Among other things we got jobs, had a little dotcom selling calendar software, quits our jobs, and got heavily involved with Indymedia. Partially, 4 years ago, we were lousy programmers.

The good news is, as part of this migration, the code is finally getting cleaned up in preparation for an over haul. We still want to provide a service for groups who are publishing online, and need a sophisticated hosted calendar. Hopefully we'll finally clean up the template system, and provide the hooks for XML syndication like we've been meaning to for years. And we still want to provide a place to find out what is happening, in your area.

We're planning to get a good community feedback forum setup soon, but in the meantime, send us email at webworker@protest.net.
