REPORT OF THE PROTEST DEMONSTRATION OF DOMESTIC WORKERS
Dhaka,22.8.99

A protest demonstration of the Domestic Workers held on 18th August against TORTURE, KILLING,RAPE,KIDNAPING,BURNING,FORCEFUL PROSTITUTION,TERMINATION and SHELTERLESS of the domestic workers.It was organised by the domestic workers association, Bangladesh.

A protes rally also held after the demonstration. The protest Rally was started from the Muktangan and paraded through different city areas.Several hundread domestic workers participated in the protest rally with BLAC GLAG.They came from the differents parts of the city named Fakirapul, Motijeel,Shahjahanpur, Shamoli,Mugda, Jurain,Palton,Bashabo,Mirpur, Kamolapur, Segunbagicha & also from Tongi.

In the demonstration, Central co-ordinator of the organisation Amirul Haque Amin mentioned that - in the last 2 month - 9 domestic workers have murder, 9 have raped, 3 have burnt, 17 have under arrested py the police for the forceful prostitution, more than 300 have kidnaped, 8 have cripled for the tortured,3 have killed after raped.He added that during this period more than 2000 have lost their job illegaly.He also added - more than 15000 have lost their shelter for the abolution of the slums.

The speakers condemned and protest these inhuman things. They demanded punishment of the bad ellement - those are involved in these.

they also demanded recognition of the domestic workers, legal facilities for the domestic workers, living wages for the domestic , food & shelter for the domestic workers,education facilities for the children of the domestic workers.

Among others Mrs Fatema Begum, Hasna Banu, Kulsum Begum, Mrs Morium Begum, Mrs Shahida sarker,Mrs Nahar,Mrs Sobi Khatun, Mrs Prya, Ohidujjaman, Subal Sarker and Mrs Arifa Akhter also addressed the demonstration.
