Evaluation of the GLAD, ESF 2003

Initiated by the Intergalactic network (www.intergalactique.org) and the No Vox network (www.novox.ras.eu.org), the space called GLAD (Globalisation of the struggles and actions of disobedience) has been a successful political event as well as a festive and convivial one, given the number of French and European that gathered on this occasion.

The GLAD managed to be part of the ESF as the Intergalactic network proposed seminars and workshops in Bobigny, Ivry, Saint-Denis? and La Vilette, and also took part in plenary sessions, but also filled in a gap being the meeting place for actions of disobedience and support of struggles, a place for debate, workshops, as well as a space to share spare time and enjoy concerts. All these activities took place without the support of any subsides neither from political groups nor from other institutions.

Within the glad, we organised successful civil disobedience actions, on different topics such as :

Radically aimed towards action and the application of altermondialist principles, the GLAD has enabled very many European and French militants (over 6000 for the three days) to give examples of simple and concrete daily life actions. The GLAD has also enabled European networks to meet and to built up and strengthen their relationship, taking therefore part in the effort of expansion and deepening of movements engaged in the process of the ESF.

The GLAD was also the place where low cost quality food could be found, as well as a warm and convivial atmosphere, workshops dedicated to exchanging "know-how" , a bar providing organic products, and over 20 concerts. This festive and convivial dimension delighted every one and filled in the gap many of us had felt in Florence.

The success of the GLAD initiative leads us to believe it has its place in coming international or European alter events. Its organisation is still to be found, always keeping in mind that the link between the workshops or seminars and direct actions is of the utmost importance.
