The Central and East European Economic Summit 2000 will take place in Salzburg between 28 and 30 June 2000. This Summit will be organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) which is a worldwide network of decision-makers from the areas of business politics science and the media. They conceive themselves to be the elite that can "improve the situation of the world". According to WEF the "improvement of the situation of the world" is achieved through the implementation of a neo-liberal world economic order.
The Salzburg Economic Summit which is closed to the public is held annually with the aim to get the international corporations in contact with the political leaders of Eastern Europe. At this occasion conditions for investors under which they are prepared to invest in Eastern European countries ought to be created. Central issues of the Salzburg Summit 2000 will be the EU Eastward Enlargement, Russia (the Salzburg Summit will for the first time offer the opportunity to meet the new political leaders of Russia) and the reconstruction of ex-Yugoslavia.
The organization Women's Resistance is doubtful that further neo-liberal interventions in the world economy will lead to an "improvement of the situation of the world". Experience so far has shown that the pushing through of the economic interests of the "global players" resulted in the impoverishment of the population and the erosion of social and ecological standards and those of women policy. For women this means that they are considered to be shock absorbers of the social dismantling either by their individual return to the kitchen or by their unpaid performance in honorary social work. Therefore it is our concern to make known in public that this East European Summit will contribute to support globalized capital in its search for opportunities to be employed in Central and East European countries with the object of maximizing profits.

Vom 28. bis 30. Juni 2000 findet in Salzburg der Zentral- und Osteuropäische Wirtschaftsgipfel 2000 statt.
Dieser Gipfel wird vom World Economic Forum veranstaltet, das ein weltweites Netzwerk von Entscheidungsträgern aus Wirtschaft, Politik, Wissenschaft und Medien ist. Es sieht sich als die Elite, die den "Zustand der Welt zu verbessern" kann. Nach Ansicht des WEF wird die "Verbesserung des Zustandes der Welt" mittels Durchsetzung einer Neoliberalen Weltwirtschaft erreicht.
Der Salzburger Wirtschaftsgipfel findet jährlich unter Ausschluss der Öffentlichkeit statt und zielt darauf ab, die internationalen Konzerne mit den politischen Führern Osteuropas in Kontakt zu bringen. Dabei sollen Bedingungen für die Investoren geschaffen werden, unter denen sie bereit sind in osteuropäischen Ländern zu investieren.
Zentrale Themenschwerpunkte des Salzburger Gipfels 2000, werden die EU-Osterweiterung, Russland (der Salzburger Gipfel wird erstmals Gelegenheit bieten, mit den neuen politischen Führern Russlands zusammenzutreffen) und der Wiederaufbau Ex-Yugoslawiens sein.
Die Gruppe Frauenwiderstand Salzburg bezweifelt, dass weitere neoliberale Einschnitte in die Weltwirtschaft zu einer "Verbesserung des Zustandes der Welt" führen. Die bisherigen Erfahrungen haben gezeigt, dass die Durchsetzung der wirtschaftlichen Interessen der "global players" im Gegenteil die Verarmung der Bevölkerung und den Abbau von sozialen, ökologischen und frauenpolitischen Standards zur Folge hat. Für Frauen bedeuted dies, dass sie als Stossdämpfer des Sozialabbaus eingeplant werden, sei es durch das individuelle Zurückkehren an den Herd oder durch die im sozialen Ehrenamt gratis geleistete Arbeit. Deshalb ist es uns ein Anliegen in der Öffentlichkeit bekannt zu machen, dass der Osteuropagipfel dazu beitragen wird, das globalisierte Kapital auf seiner Suche nach Verwertungsmöglichkeiten in den Ländern Zentral- und Osteuropas zum Zweck der Profitmaximierung zu unterstützen.
