The WEF is a meeting of the worlds most powerful corporations and politicians where in the name of "global development", they make "suggestions" to the IMF/WB and WTO. Many of these suggestions then wind up on the agendas of these institutions of global capital.
The WEF in the name of "solidarity" is coming to NYC instead of Davos. There have been protests all over the world against the WEF and an international network exists based in Switzerland. This international network would like to work with whatever formation develops here. Groups around the country and in Canada have allready expressed plans to be involved.
At the "Globalized Resistance" conference at CUNY this past weekend a diverse crowd of over 400 strongly supported the following statement:
Because we believe another world is possible. Because we know another world is necessary. Because we have confidence regular people the world over can organize collectively to make the decisions that affect them as individuals and as a world society.
With this conviction we stand together with the vision of this new world and oppose all obstacles to the achievement of this world. Obstacles such as poverty, oppression, exploitation and war. Obstacles appear in many manifestations and forms from nation-states to international financial institutions and lack of access to truthful information about our world.
The meeting of the World Economic Forum represents one of these obstacles to a new society. It is a meeting of representatives of the most oppressive and powerful corporations and governments of the world, where plans are laid for the further destruction of the planet.
The WEF has decided in the name of "solidarity" to meet in NYC. We in NYC have suffered enough destruction to again be forced to witness th planning of even further global devistation.
This meeting should not take place.
We will vocalize our opposition to its meeting.
We will organize actively and in a variety of ways to prevent this meeting from taking place.
We will organize discussions of what another world could look like without oppressive institutions and nation-states.
NOW MORE THAN EVER, WE KNOW A BETTER WORLD IS NECESSARY AND POSSIBLE.
