Demonstration in Dhaka against WTO

Dated 14 November 2001

On 10 November 2001, 7-organizations including Bangladesh Krishok Federation staged a demonstration in the capital city of Dhaka protesting the so-called development round of WTO held in Doha, Qatar. Thousands of people participated in this demonstration and a big procession was brought out and paraded in the different streets in the city. From the demonstration the Bangladesh government was asked to come out of WTO. The speakers at the demonstration said the WTO is an illegal and undemocratic institution. It has been formed in the interest of Transnational Corporations. It never serves the people's interest. They said that WTO is going to carry out the corporate globalization that is destroying the national economy, cultural diversity, environment, ariculture, industry and creating unemployment, poverty, hunger, migration, health hazard, etc.
