Public Conferences

Each day one large conference will be held to inform the public about the WTO and its destructive impact on particular sectors:

Mass Mobilization- Saturday, November 10

The actions planned for November 10 are intended to be festive and informative. The objective is to raise public awareness about the WTO and its consequences on policies related to the environment, public health, education and transportation. Other important themes include reclaiming public space and voicing our opposition to the war in Afghanistan. The day will start with a tour of “privatization” and will be followed by a “popular meal” at a bustling center city location. The mobilization will continue with a Reclaim the Streets party in the afternoon, followed by a massive anti-war/anti-WTO demonstration and street party well into the night.

Morning Actions:

A special “Show Bus” decorated as the WTO and mounted with a full sound and video system will ride to diverse sites throughout the city. As the bus circulates, the sound system will blast information and pithy slogans about the WTO. At each site, WTO “delegates” will get off the bus and join a group of people already stationed there to “privatize” key institutions representing important public sectors. Dramatic and extremely visual performances will be staged at each site.
