the day of action against the Interamerican Bank of Developement planning away the future of the latin south has met with bold protests despite military police intimidation and stopping buses of protestors outside of the city for days — a group of anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian had an assembly (public meeting) with the people of Papadou, one of the poorest communities in Cera (state) where the IABD (BID)wants to fund the eviction and "developement" of the squatted community that has existed for generations. Vague promises of money helps divide the community that will be forced into the water shed where the river meets the sea. The neighborhood assembly was followed by a spirited march through the neighborhood in support of the community's human and environmental rights. On the delegates' buffet table of plunder includes the destructive increase in funding for tourism "developement" in the Notheast of Brasil, one of the last places on the Atlantic coast with out hotels and intact ecosystems. Inside the conference walls, behind hundreds of armed guards, the tables were full of propaganda promoting tourism and electronic and shallow analysis of the uprising in Argentina. Most of the main sessions were closed to the press who were only allowed to view the speaches via a single video screen. Boths for tourism in Brasil were the most prevalent fixture in the wealthy setting as well as the pressence of dozens of high ranking military. As one neighborhood resident said of the present government, "They are the same people, it is the military dictatorship with a little make-up."

The old left parties and unions and independant youth joined together to march to the Conference Center and were illegally stopped by the riot police, police on horseback, and military police — a standoff ensued and a youth group left with their samba band and attacked a BID Billboard and began marching around the police lines a block down — the union groups left the protest and almost immediately the police tried to split the group ion half with their horses — the youth group raised the alarm and returned to the larger group and the police were moving in again — the protestor would not allow the police to remove them and a shoving match was followed by pepper spray and tear gass without warning or orders to disperse — the resistance was very strong with objects and tear gas returning to the police until the horses made a full charge dividing the group into many splinters — the horses and riot police chased and tried to beat protesters going in many directions — there were no reports of arrest or serious injury — there are rumors of actions all over town and it is confirmed that Manu Choa will perform in public for free, reclaiming an undisclosed street in the next few minutes — stay tuned for more updates and check: www.midiaindependente.org
