30th of mai in geneva: against IOM, WTO and WIPO!

proposal for a travelling manifestation in geneva through the quarter of institutions at friady, 30th of mai, starting at 11 a.m.

we hope, that already at thursday, 29th of mai, some thousand people will come to geneva, annemasse and lausanne to participate in the protests in the days before the beginning of the g-8-summit and in the preparations of the blockades, which will start at 1st of juni in the morning.

in the frame of anti-g-8-activities we propose to organise a demonstration through the quarter of institutions in geneva at friday, 30th of mai.

we intend to express our fundamental critizism of capitalist development and our clear rejectment of more and more transnational instruments of exploitation and control.

freedom of movement is our demand against IOM, an intergovermental institution, which claims the leadership in socalled global migration management, which means to combine programs of deportation and internment of migrants, the destruction of flightroutes and recruitment-projects for cheap labourforces.

reappropiation and selfdetermination of production and reproduction are our demands against the worldmarket-dictations of the transnational companies, whose interests to rule and regulate the globe are represented in WTO.

freedom of communication is our slogan when we stay infront of the world intellectual property organization (WIPO). what is recently known as "information society" appears as a wave of expansionist intellectual property laws. Companies are able exercise a biopolitical control that takes to new extremes the tendency of liberating capital by restricting individual and collective freedoms and rights - even the right to life itself.

iom, wto and wipo symbolize three central aspects of global governance.

with our travelling manifestation in front of their headoffices we want to focus to this context and to develope an interconnected struggle.

it seems to be useful to concentrate firstly to these three institutions, although the route will lead along ilo, uno and unhcr (where we can make some short critical speeches too...).

the character of the demo:

in front of the three headoffices we should prepare in each case two or three speeches to explain the importance and the context of the respective institutions from different points of view ...and of course to refer to our practical experiences and campaigns. (anti-iom-campaign of nobordernetwork; anti-wto and pga activities and a reference to coming protest during cancun; independent media-activities and mobilisation around wsis...)

the route will lead through a boring area, it is not a residential quarter and we will meet hardly pedestrians.

we think, we should avoid occupations or any attacks against the buildings of the institutions in the frame of this demo. on one hand the area seems to be very disadvantageous, on the other hand and more important, that we should concentrate our confrontational potential to the blockades in the coming days in stead of risking a dynamic of repression already at friday.

subsequently the first intention of this demo refers to its contents, as addition and deepening of the anti-g-8-blockades, as a contextualisation of various aspects of power and of resistance.

well prepared banners are important to point out the contents, and of course a press- and media-work (mainstream and own medias) in advance and afterwards will be crucial.

for the demo itself we should try to organise music (samba bands, sound systems) to make it noisy and atmospheric, and also to prepare good international slogans.

mobilisation:

starting now we should distribute the information about this demo in meetings and websites...

an extra-call could be prepared too within the next weeks.

at thursday evening (29th of mai) we should mobilise people in all the camps/villages by information or film-events (an anti-iom-film will be available soon...), at least to announce via soundsystems and infopoints.

if mobilisation works bad, we will be a few hundred on the demo. it would not be such a big problem, because the input of contents is useful in each case.

if it works well, perhaps a few thousand people will come and that would be a nice prelude!

next steps:

within the next weeks we should explain and distribute the idea to get feedback and to know, which groups are interested.

parallel a small preparation group should be established with activists, who are involved in all three aspects (noborder/sans papier; pga/anti-wto; independend media/wsis...). they should try to prepare a draft of a common call, which can be discussed and finished at the meeting in lausanne at 10th of mai.

also the respective speeches should be prepared by this group.

technics and the question to get registered the demo should be clearified in the middle of mai too.
