Concerned citizens, and local experts will convene in front of Peterborough Town Hall on Saturday, September 13th for a rally to celebrate the NH Department of Environmental Service's August 12th ruling which turned off the tap, at least for now, on USA Spring's plan to withdraw and bottle up to 310,000 gallons daily of groundwater from wells in Nottingham. The DES decision will be discussed within the context of international trade meetings currently taking place in Cancun, Mexico that are considering rules that would overturn local decisions of this type.

The event begins in front of the Peterborough Town Hall at 11 am and will continue until 1 pm. It will include a procession that will then pass through the downtown area of Depot Square at approximately 12:30 before returning to Town Hall. Featured speakers will provide informative analysis of privatization schemes that target water delivery and other vital and beloved services. for that will award contracts to the lowest bidder, « Many people are shocked to learn of the implications of the trade agreements » said John Friede, Executive Director, Worldview, Ltd., « key services like health care and postal delivery could be awarded to low-bidders from a continent away irrespective of their accountability or their commitment to local customs or quality of life. ». Members of the public are also invited to add their voices.

This educational event is one of numerous solidarity actions around the world taking place on September 13th as part of a Worldwide Day of Action Against Corporate Globalization and War. It coincides with the World Trade Organization's Fifth Ministerial meeting in Cancun, Mexico. Popular movements in Mexico and their international allies will mark these meetings with massive demonstrations to demand a world that puts democracy and human dignity ahead of corporate profits.
