Anti-WTO rally in La Crosse on 9/13: Come on down!
Please reserve 1-2 hours on 9/13 (Saturday) at 1:00 at Cameron Park in La Crosse for the La Crosse Coalition for Peace and Justice!

Preliminary plans include: guest speaker to address 'How Globalization Interfaces with Global Peace Initiatives', a discussion of the UW-L's proposed withdrawal of membership from the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies, open mic, and a Peace and Justice march through downtown.

Specific issues such as human rights, globalization, ending the occupation of Iraq, the militarization of America, and the dubious honesty of our government (to name but a few) will be part of the agenda.

Although the focus of this event is peace and justice, the avenue taken to express those principles are as varied as the number of participants ...... be creative!

September 13 was chosen since global events, not surprisingly, often propel global movements. Pushed by multinational corporations, the United States, the European Union, and other developed countries are seeking to launch a new round of "free trade" negotiations and expand corporate globalization - further eroding human rights, workers' rights, environmental protections, and democracy - in the interest of corporate control. Popular movements in Mexico and their international allies will mark these meetings with massive demonstrations to demand a world that puts democracy and human dignity ahead of corporate profits. Solidarity actions around the world will focus on September 13 as a Worldwide Day of Action Against Corporate Globalization and War.

Peace activists are called on throughout the world to join this global uprising for peace and justice. "Global Exchange" has requested peace advocates to organize events in our communities throughout the week leading up to the WTO Ministerial and on September 13.

The La Crosse Coalition's newly published book "Poets Against the War" (written by local poets and hot off the presses) will also be available for sale that day.

The parameters for this event are humble in that no bells and whistles are promised ....... other than camaraderie, good times, and the knowledge that you are involved in important global peace work!
