Background:
From September 10 to 14, the World Trade Organization (WTO) will hold its Fifth Ministerial Meeting in Cancún, Mexico. Popular movements in Mexico and their international allies will mark these meetings with massive protests to demand a world that puts democracy and human dignity ahead of corporate profits. WTO policies have played a major role in creating job losses – Connecticut included – as well as contributing to poverty and worker exploitation around the world, environmental degradation, and war. The unelected WTO works in an undemocratic fashion to restructure the world economy in the interest of the rich elite.

To all social justice, labor, and peace groups in CT:
Join us in staging a solidarity action in Hartford, starting at Pope Park (directions/parking below) at 10:00 AM, where the local radical theater group, the Hartbeat Ensemble will be performing a skit addressing the opening of a new Walmart store in Hartford.

We will then march (10:45 AM) from Pope Park to the business center of Hartford, the Gold Building in downtown Hartford (1.42 mi.), to rally against corporate power, job and budget cuts, and war.

At 1:00 PM, the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride (www.iwfr.org) will be holding a forum at Center Church, directly across the street from the Gold Building. We STRONGLY encourage folks to stick around for that. It is not to be missed!
