The Summer Workers Campaign in Sweden
Swedish Anarcho-syndicalist Youth Federation (SUF) , 05.05.2005 00:00
The Swedish Anarcho-syndicalist Youth Federation (SUF) presents its national summer-project: 'The Summer Workers Campaign'
The purpose of the campaign is to make young, precarious workers aware of their rights during the ordinary workers vacation, where the youngsters and students are absolutely invaluable! Without them the system would collapse and it?s time for them to realize that this fact automatically gives them power of their situation! What SUF inquires is...
...awareness, solidarity with your staff and more disobedience! This means that we support what people at working places already do and encourage them to not push up the speed and stress at work. If you get a third of an ordinary salary, work a third! Since you?re robbed by working each day, bring home some extra bonus when you can!
The campaign will be a media adapted spectacle. It contains two days of action; one at may 30 against the local labour exchange and one at June 13 against the local government. This is to draw attention to two of the worst parts of the situation for young, precarious workers. The labour exchange for providing only disciplined workers to employers; not jobs to unemployed. The local government by being the largest employer of seasonal- and temp workers, with shitty jobs for shitty wages! If other parts of the euromayday-movement finds these days of action interesting we would gladely spread it out to Europe. I believed that we talked very briefly about common days of action on the Berlin-summit, so this is our suggestion to that.
The campaign will also inform about the union?s role. Even though you?re young or a temp worker you can fight at work through your union. The Swedish Anarcho-syndicalist Union (SAC) has given its support to this campaign by cover the costs for the propaganda material.
The members of SUF are assured to be very busy from the 1st of May when the campaign starts and throughout the whole summer. Since the campaign is national and the days of action are going to take place in several cities around Sweden, SUF counts with extensive media coverage to illuminate this important part of the worker?s fight against capitalism.
