More G8 protests are taking place around the country. Demonstrators are gathering outside the BP Grangemouth refinery.
All morning there has been a heavy police presence at the Dungavel Detention Centre in Lanarkshire as several hundred demonstrators protest against the holding of asylum seekers and the deportations programme.
Home Office officials have already moved detainees to other centres for the week of G8.
Mark Brown from the Campaign to Welcome Refugees said: "Charles Clarke can move people out of here if he likes, but we say - it's empty for a week, we want it empty permanently. An empty Dungavel is a symbol of exactly how we want it to be on a permanent basis. If Clarke thought he was going to undermine our protest by emptying the place for a week, he's got another think coming and he'll see that by the end of the day when we've a mass protest outside this place to demand that it be closed.
