Historic demonstration
Sat 23 Apr 2005

ONCE again your coverage of G8 protests (News, April 18 & 19) focuses on violence.

If this is what you want to be headline news on Sunday July 3 then you may be seriously disappointed as all groups involved, including G8 Alternatives, have pledged their full support for the Make Poverty History demonstration and will have no trouble in maintaining a peaceful protest.

Let's hope the police can do the same, but talking about riot-training camps, water-cannons and tear gas will only create an atmosphere of tension. I expect no violence so let's stop talking about what will not happen and start talking about what will happen: the biggest demonstration in our history.
